FOUNDER, PHILOSOPHIE SUPERFOODS

When did you launch your business? What is the message behind your brand?

I launched Philosophie a little over 10 years ago with the intention of creating high-vibrational superfood and plant-based protein blends that help you tap into the love, bliss and whole-being out of life. I was tired of looking for individual superfoods to enhance my meals and dreamed of everything I wanted in one convenient blend and Philosophie was born. The Philosophie vision is to help people achieve their fullest state of health by making it easy to get complete nutrition in every meal. Superfood Blends & Infusions that nourish the body with whole, live, nutrient-rich foods.

What were the defining moments in your career that taught you the biggest lessons?

The defining moments in my career were embracing a life of radical transparency and sharing my heart on my public platforms. All throughout my youth and when I first started my work in health and wellness in my 20s, I committed to living a vegan diet. As soon as I was pregnant with my first I had serious cravings and everything became about paying attention to my and baby’s needs instead of listening to the “rules” everyone else was trying to shove in my face. I decided that my body needed the extra protein and began a long road to intuitive eating. In my early years of leaving the vegan diet, I received a lot of hate and it’s helped me build up a thick skin and was one of my first journeys in embracing a life of radical transparency and tapping into my intuition to guide me. Since then, I shared my story of cheating and breaking through barriers and continue to share my views on politics, human rights and more on my public platforms. I share so much in my community in part to free myself but also as a hope to show those who may find themselves in similar situations that there’s a way to the other side. I’m a real person and I’m a mother. I make mistakes, have opinions and I’m learning every day. I share my heart and soul in public spaces because it’s what aligns with ME.

Sometimes we're all BAD MUTHAs (as we should be). When did you go against traditional advice that propelled you forward?

I’m constantly going against mainstream advice to stay connected to my truest essence. Once I had a call with Ariana Grande’s social media manager and he advised me in a certain direction. I ignored all of his advice and continued to do my own thing even if it’s less popular.

“EMBRACE BEING A WOMAN; NEVER STOP BEING AMBITIOUS, STRONG, AND COMPASSIONATE.”

We all need a champion. Who in your life has consistently supported you?

My husband, Adi has been my champion and my partner in so many ways. My chosen family, my friends who are like sisters and my Philosophie and management teams. There are people in your life who want you to be your best and demand it from you. They are not surprised by your wins and love to celebrate them. I’m so grateful for these precious humans who cheer me on and celebrate where I am going without jealousy or comparison. They see me, all of me, the whole version of me and want me to keep evolving and growing. The champions in your life motivate you to crave growth and expansion, but more than that, they love the whole version of you.

Rewind. What is the best advice you’ve received throughout your life?

The best parenting advice I’ve ever been given is to trust my mama intuition and above all, honor yourself and your needs. You absolutely must give yourself as much self-love as you need without a grain of guilt. Until you are filled UP, you can not give fully to your little loves, friends, husbands, and others in your life. Take long baths when the kids are asleep, drink that glass of wine, book that massage, go out with your best friend. This is okay AND necessary in order to truly be present with your babes. The best business advice I’ve been told is that it’s important to know what else is happening in your market and to stay on top of trends, but more importantly, to know when to shut out what everyone else is doing and stay aligned with what you value.

Fast forward. What insight can you give to aspiring women in their careers who want to be a leader in their space?

Find your passion, something that fulfills you, something that challenges you, something that springs you out of bed and into the world. And, fill your life with people who give you energy, who support you in your mission, and who will be there for you on darker days, as well as the brighter ones. Embrace being a woman; never stop being ambitious, strong, and compassionate. Ask questions, seek guidance, and don’t see this as a weakness. Build a tribe and be there to support other women — success and happiness is not a finite resource, there’s more than enough for everyone.

How do you like to MUTHA yourself and ensure you still have some 'me' time?

I’ve MUTHA’ed myself for a very long time because I don’t actually feel I was mothered in the ways many were. I’ve been mothering myself since I was a little girl. The most important thing for me is being proud of myself, telling myself positive things, supporting nurturing energy and being my own biggest fan.

What is your secret to managing motherhood, career and relationships?

Ask for help! You can’t do it all alone. Give yourself enough grace to know that you are only human. In order to be the best mama I can be, I share the work and constantly check my boundaries. If something doesn’t align then I don’t let it in my life.

Anything else you want to share about your story or motherhood?

Motherhood is a wild ride and the most important thing is that you have to tune out what others are doing and go inward to connect to what you truly feel. Get centered. Have time alone. More than what you think you need. Use nap time to regroup for the next marathon of an afternoon. Do whatever it takes - get creative - to show up as the best version of you as possible. Leave judgment at the door and be gracious with yourself.
